RENOWNED Adelaide restaurateur Cath Kerry has urged wine lovers to splurge on the soon-to-be-released Penfolds 2004 Grange as a way to support the luxury end of the economy.
Ms Kerry said luxury goods could be just as affected by the global financial crisis as more utilitarian products.
"With so much gloom and doom, an occasional luxury is important ," Ms Kerry said this week at the first of six Penfolds pre-release Grange dinners at Magill Estate Restaurant.
The wine will go on sale on May 1 for somewhere between $550-$650, which is $50-$100 more than last year's retail price.
A six litre "Imperial" bottle of the wine was auctioned for $30,000 last Friday in the Barossa.
