I’ve heard all the dumb things, by Morrie Sinclaire

A teacher I had once said "There are no dumb questions. Only people eager to learn," and I couldn't agree more. This was in primary school and was in reply to a student's preamble of "This might sound dumb but...", and while I don't remember the question the reply has stuck with me.

I always remember these words whenever someone, usually quite hesitantly, plucks up the courage to ask what they feel to be a question of such simplicity that it's mere asking seems to them to serve only to profess their ignorance to the utter obvious.

In short, and to quote another, they hesitate as "It is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

But fools achieve a lot in this world by not caring that they are foolish and so, in the interest of education, I thought I would answer a few of the "dumb" questions that I have been asked over the years...
