Garagiste Pinot Noir 2010
Garagiste is an old French term for a passionate winemaker who creates fine wines close to home, occasionally in his or her garage. They do not own a vineyard so their fruit must be carefully chosen.
Garagiste of the Mornington Peninsula aim to produce wines that truly express a sense of the place. Focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir their ultimate goal is to highlight the subtleties of the Peninsula's different sub-regions with small batches of very limited, premium wines.
The 2010 Pinot Noir is made from fruit derived from the MV6 clone. After hand sorting in the vineyard and again over a sorting table at the winery, only the best bunches were destemmed by gravity into small open fermenters. Particular care was taken to avoid excessive extraction. The wine is wild yeast fermented, with 35% new Francois Freres oak, and aged in Hogs heads for 11 months.
The resulting wine exhibits an intense fragrance of cranberry, plum and raspberry complimented by aromas of licorice and clove. The palate is elegant and long with refreshing acidity and lots of fine tannin. We highly recommend that you try this fabulously crafted Mornington Peninsula Pinot while stocks last!
